An Update for Spring

This is what the windows in the Great Room looked like when we bought the house.

Six months later, I put up some curtains.

They weren't "my style," and I didn't like them.

And yet, this is what the Great Room looked like until yesterday afternoon...

...when I changed out the original curtains (that I made) for new curtains made out of $5 sheets from Wal-Mart.

As I said when I hung curtains in our bedroom, this is so easy and cheap!  For the two large windows, all I did was fold over the top of the sheet and stitch it down.  For the single window in the dining room, I cut the sheet down the middle and hemmed it before folding over the top for stitching.  Ten minutes of sewing and I was done.  Every now and then, it's nice to have a little change, and honestly, I never cared for the first set curtains to begin with (so why did I live with them for 2 years??).  We have big plans for this space over the coming weeks and months, and this simple little switch out is a good way to start.  They not only add character to the Great Room but also have changed the light in most of the house to a softer, more home-like feel.

I have a couple of bigger projects to share with you this week that I can't wait for you all to see!  Until then, feel free to admire my cheap curtains.

Any of you making any updates in your homes?  Getting ready for Spring or just sprucing up in general?

  1. I love these...they SO look like Spring! And you know how much I adore Spring! Why, I think it's Spring right now, despite the forecast for snow.

  2. Those are cute! We just had a big early spring cleaning to get ready for a house inspection to renew our rental contract. We apparently passed with flying colors despite the LARGE amount of holes in the walls and a few changed out light fixtures.
