A Little More Sparkle

Remember how I was talking about those lights yesterday?  And how I really wanted them in the den because I wanted some Christmas sparkle in the den where we basically live all day?  Well, sparkle problem solved.  When the mister and I were first married, we got live trees for a couple of years.  Then my  sinuses threatened to find a new home, and that was the end of that.  We were living in a small apartment at the time, so we bought a small, three foot fake tree.  I didn't really know what to do with it when we bought the house last year, since we had such a nice, large, prelit tree given to us, so I sent it to reside in one of Mr. Chadwick's storage rooms at school.  While moving the lights around from place to place and room to room, I was struck with a brilliant idea.  Why not bring that tree back home and use it to fill up the corner on the hearth?

Little Man and I trekked up to the school and got the tree.  Little Man helped put on the lights once we got back home (such a good little helper).

Little Man also helped me make these little paper birds to put on the tree.

Several years ago, before it was popular to put a bird silhouette on everything, I drew this little bird to use in one of my classrooms.  All I did for the tree was trace the bird out on vintage sheet music, cut them out (three at a time), and put red ribbon through the tops with a yarn needle.  Super easy.

There are also two crocheted snowflakes on there right now.  I keep making them, and as I finish and starch each one, they will get added to the tree, too.  I really like our little tree.  Especially in the den.

  1. What a perfect spot! I love that. I also like the birds. I have a bunch of vintage music in the piano bench from my grandpa. Trying to decide what to do with it. So many choices and so little time!
